Congress: About

Information regarding the Galway Chess Congress, past and present, can be accessed from this page.

The Galway Chess Congress is one of the four main annual weekenders in Ireland. For many years we have been hosting the event in one of the leading hotels in Galway. The date was originally in early to mid-October, but we have recently switched to a mid-Spring date. In 2019, the competition will be held from March 22nd-24th.

There was no Congress in 2018. The 2017 version took place from 10th to 12th March  2017 in the Menlo Park Hotel. Details of this event can be found in this dedicated page.

The 2017 Masters champion is GM Oleg Korneev.

Further details of past congresses are available here:2017 Congress, 2016 Congress2014 Congress, 2013 Congress, the 2012 Congress and the 2011 Congress.

      Hi James,

Apologies for the delay. The club is due to start up in October – probably on the 10th, but I’ve added you to the mailing list so you will get an email to confirm closer to the date. Failing that, you can usually find us in Monroe’s Tavern of a Tuesday evening. Send us an email if you have any further questions.

      Best,

      Fintan
