The All-Ireland Junior Chess Championships were held last weekend (9-11 April) in Ennis, Co. Clare. There were some excellent performances by Galway players.

Notable Galway performances from:

• Sean Guinan (Tuam) - tied first in the U-14 tournament.  Well done Sean!
• Conor McDonogh (Galway) - 3rd outright in the U-10 section
• Matthew Laffey (Galway) - 4th in the U-10 section
• Oissine Murphy (Knocknacarra) - 3rd in the U-16's (Oissine was qualified to play in the U-14's but played in the older age category)
• Billy McKenna (Ballinalsoe) and Cian Guinan (Tuam) - joint 4th in the U-12 section
• Honorable mention to Thomas McStay (Claregalway) - 3 wins in the U-10 section was excellent for a first national tournament
