Sections

There will be 3 sections as set out below.

Masters 1800+ All moves in 1 hr 30 mins
Major 1200-1799 All moves in 1 hr 30 mins
Minor U-1200 All moves in 1 hr 30 mins

Please note that players with ratings within 100 points of each rating band limit will be allowed to float up to the next section if they wish to.

For floating up to the Masters section, FIDE ratings will be accepted. Players rated below 1800 who have been rated over 1800 in the past 2 years may also float up.

Tournament Hotel

The 2010 Galway Chess Congress will be held this year from Oct 1st -3rd 2010, in the Salthill Hotel on the promenade in Salthill in Galway.

To book, please phone reservations at the Salthill Hotel at +353 91 522711 Mon-Fri from 9-5.30pm and quote "Chess Congress" as we have block reserved rooms in the hotel.   Note: the hotel rooms are booked out on the hotel's website - you must phone reservations and quote "chess congress" to get a room.

Entry Fee

Entry fee is €45 for all competitions with discounts for full-time students, unemployed and U-16's. There is a further discount of €10 for all entries received by Sept 20th. Note that, in order to obtain the discount, the entry fee must be received by that date.

€35 (€25 for entries, incl fee, received by Sept 20th)

Notes

  1. All players resident in Ireland must be members of the Irish Chess Union (www.icu.ie) and must bring their own set, board and clock.
  2. No Player may win more than one prize. If a player without an official rating wins a competition, s/he will only receive 50% of the prize money.
  3. FIDE Rules as per I.C.U. Handbook, 1990 & I.C.U. Allegro Finish Rules 1996 apply.
  4. The Prize Fund may adjust subject to entry.
