Galway Winter League (GWL)

The Galway Winter League is the primary club competition held by the Galway Chess Club. Started in Sept 2002, it is run each year as a 7 round ICU-rated tournament with typically one round played each month from Sept/Oct until the following April.

Galway Winter League (GWL) 2009

The final round of the Galway Winter League 2009 was played on Thursday March 12th 2009 with the competition down to just 2 contenders, Ronan Duke and Pete Morriss. With Ronan ahead of Pete by half a point, Pete had to get a better result than Ronan to win the tournament on tie-break. Conversely, Ronan could guarantee the title by winning his match.
